I remember my father reading rhymes like this to me when I was a child.
I did not write this poem but was keen to share it as a memory.
Hair, hair, hair, I’ve got none on me noddle,
But I don’t care as down the road I toddle,
The girls all shout, “Here comes the thoroughbred,
Oh I don’t care, I’ve got no Hair, I’m proud of me ole bald head!
I wanted to include a memory of my late sister.
This is a poem I have created and a birthday card she sent me.
Hello, Sister, the virtuous woman I know.
I will not speak of you as if you are not here.
I close my eyes, and I see you smiling back to say,
I love you, and I’m here to stay.
This life is but a mere vision, an illusion in my head,
For a lifetime of eternity is that not what God said?
I look at your daughters, and I can see you so much.
Giving me comfort, I feel you so close, a heartbeat at most.
I look at your grandchildren and see your legacy,
Through their love and the laughter,
A gush of a smile,
The wisdom and teaching,
Now, from the mouth of the child.
Oh, and then there’s the little bairn,
Who put the great in gran,
You then became a great nan
Another little treasure to add to the clan.
I look at myself in the mirror too,
there again you're shining through!
I look at the trees and the flowers in bloom,
And the smell of their fragrance reminds me of you.
You are cheeky and stern, you made me laugh out loud,
You are a one-on-one person who did not need a crowd,
You are wisdom and kindness,
You are love through and through,
You're that virtuous woman; there was not much you could not do.
Then around your table, the hospitality is second to none,
So much joy and laughter, so much fun.
You loved all kinds of animals,
Big small, thin tall,
Dogs, cats, birds, squirrels and foxes alike.
You fed them like Mother Gaia. You look down on them like the star of the night.
Oh, sister, I’ve come to know you're not far away,
We may have grief and sorrow that can get in the way, but that’s ok!
You are in the earth, the fire, the water, the wind,
You are the angel who’s gained her wings.
So, as we come together to remember you, sweet Kim,
Let us all be reminded you're in everything!
I will love you forever, though death do us part.
But for now, my sweet sister, you hold a place in my heart.
